Out Like a Lion

Well, March came in like a lion this year and has left with the same gusto! I was suppose to take 80 High School students to Bemidji today for some performances but the school pulled the plug on the trip. We had all the students at school at 7:30 am ready to go and everything loaded in the bus before we cancelled it. I believe it was a good call because we ended up getting out of school at 1:00 because of the Winter Storm. There will be no pictures this time - just look at older posts. It is much of the same thing.

The Fargo/Moorhead area has been battling flooding. I was a Senior at Concordia in 1997 the last time there was a high threat of flooding. They actually closed all of the schools/college campuses/non-essential businesses for over a week this time. Please keep everyone who is battling the mighty Red River in our prayers.

The calving season has gone well. We have had 6 sets of twins and only 1 calf not make it. I guess it was laid on by another cow. Too bad. We are up to 48 babies in the "nursery!" The girls were able to watch the birth of twins the other day. Todd had to pull both calves. He said the girls didn't make one sound! I guess there were two miracles that occurred in the barn - the miracle of birth and the miracle of three quiet girls!

That is it for now!

The Aftermath

After battling a very bad blizzard with 14 inches of snow this week, it is nice to see the sun and warmer temps. We are a balming 35 degrees today so the kids have been kicked out of the house. Here are a few pictures of them playing on the huge snow hill Todd made from plowing the snow in our yard this week. As you can see, the pile is as high as our barn!

The Lion Marches On!

Well, the Month of March has certainly come in like a lion! We are tucked safe and warm in our home today as we have yet another blizzard in our area. 8 inches of snow fell yesterday so it was a tricky drive home from school and we are expected to get up to 12" today with wind speeds kicking up to 45 miles an hour. I don't mind staying home all day with the kids and playing catch-up with my to-do list. Although, we will have to make this school day up so that means no Easter break this year. We already have to work the day after Easter and I imagine they may take away Good Friday as well. Happy Snowblowing!

Piano Festival & Other News

Rachel participated in her first Piano Festival last Saturday. She played two pieces for memory in front of a judge who grades her efforts. Rachel played as if she didn't have a care in the world and did a fantastic job! I was listening through the door (of course!). She received a superior rating of 5 points. You need 15 points to earn a gold cup so the earliest you could get one would be 3 years of superior ratings in a row. The judge asked me if I played piano and I told her that I did and was actually a music teacher. She said that really reflected in Rachel's playing because she really paid attention to all of the little details in her music. I was so proud of her! We celebrated at Dairy Queen after the festival. Great job Rachel!!

Sarah and Rachel finished their last basketball practice yesterday for another year. They have been going every Saturday for the last two months in order to sharpen their skills. Sarah is working really hard on dribbling the ball and loves all of the activities. Rachel's group has even started "playing" each other using defensive and offensive skills. I just hope they continue to enjoy the game and do NOT have their mother's athletic ability!

Jordan had pre-school screening last Monday and did fairly well (considering she just turned 3 in January.) She will be all ready to go to pre-school in the fall. We are hoping the district will move to all day/everyday Kindergarten for Sarah in the fall. It would be wonderful to not have to pay that hefty daycare bill.

It is still cold up here in Northwestern MN. We woke up to -14 below this morning. Todd has been busy looking after the baby calves being born. He is up a couple times throughout the night to check the cows. They are not very smart animals and tend to have their babies out in the snow and cold and not in the barn!

Sorry there aren't any pictures this time around. Maybe in the next post. Goodbye for now!
